The NFL and The National Guard know that it is not always easy balancing school, football and social activities. To help organize your schedule, we have developed a planner with each month focusing on a different character development or life skill topic

The 2010 Planner focuses on the following topics:
Setting Goals
Participants receive instruction on the importance of setting goals and complete exercises on goal setting, prioritizing and distinguishing between short and long term goals.
Time Management
Coaches teach student athletes that setting goals involves establishing specific measurable and time targeted objectives.
Ethics and Values
Participants discuss the difference between values and ethics focusing on topics such as compassion and personal conduct. They are encouraged to take introspective view of their own values and ethics.
Communication
Various forms of communication are explained and practiced such as body language, tone, and word choice.
Teamwork
Always a big part of winning on the field; participants are asked to identify what makes teamwork successful and unsuccessful.
Sportsmanship
Participants and coaches explore ways of maintaining self-control in dealing with others and respecting both authority and opponents.
Active Citizenship
Coaches monitor discussions on various ways to give back to their community and the impact that it has on others, directly and indirectly
Attitude, Image and Motivation
Participants are asked to examine their own attitude, image and motivation in different aspects of life such as at school, during football and with family.
Emotional Intelligence
An extremely important topic that is often overlooked; coaches explain the four components of emotional intelligence and discuss various skills to assist in developing this attribute.
Discipline and Responsibility
To better prepare student athletes for difficult situations; coaches discuss techniques to promote self-control and personal conduct and the importance of striving for excellence on and off the field.
Preparation
Participants discuss different forms of preparation for school, sports and family. They are taught to expect the unexpected and the importance of planning ahead.
Self-Health
Coaches emphasize the importance of stress management, healthy diet and ample sleep in order to perform at the highest level in both academics and on the field.
Decision Making
Participants learn steps to make decisions, especially those regarding important academic, football or personal matters. They complete exercises to become accustomed to using the steps in their daily life.
